Dreaming in black and white

Photographs and Documents relating to the inter-war period

This section is dedicated to the period between 1918 and 1939. It shows both documents and photographs realting to the family.

Whilst all sections of the family are covered, there is a particular emphasis on the lives of my grandparents, Douglas Thomson and Joan Thomson (nee Beck). They emigrated to the United States in the mid-1920’s, but the Great Depression drove them back to Scotland in less than ten years. Douglas found temporary work in Rosyth Dockyard, as the threat of war loomed larger, and was eventually taken on on a permanent basis in 1937.
